Carmageddon: Reincarnation seeking Kickstarter funds
Carmageddon made quite the splash when it debuted in 1997. The hyper-violent driving game had you running over bodies at high-speeds, and undoubtedly corrupted our nation's youth. The game's original developer, Stainless Games, wants to revive the long-dormant property with Carmageddon: Reincarnation.
Although already "announced," the developer is now turning to Kickstarter to raise crowdsourced funds for the game. "Raising the funds through Kickstarter will mean that we keep complete control of the project and can make the game we know everyone wants to play â€" with no EVIL corporate investor or publisher telling us that we can't run over old ladies or set fire to cows," Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland said in a press release.
Kickstarter page, that money "represents all of our profits from our other work," adding that "it's worth it."
"We currently have a small team working on the project - but without some sort of dedicated funding, that can't continue indefinitely. We can't put this game into full production without a sizeable team dedicated to it. So we need a pile of CASH to get the game made."
With $25,000 already pledged, Carmageddon might have enough nostalgic power to reach its goals, which would assure the developers don't have to go to a publisher. "We really don't want to have any creative control of the new game wrestled from us by a corporate investor, a publisher."
