Catalyst Control Center - Won't Open

Catalyst Control Center won't Open

A peculiar problem started occurring this weekend, the Catalyst Control Center refused to open. I would right click the desktop then click the CCC from the context menu and all I would receive in return was an hourglass. Uninstall/Reinstalling did not help.

Oddly enough, as soon as I had tried to open my CCC my SteelSeries engine stopped working.
Initialization of SteelSeries Engine failed.
Initialization of SteelSeries Engine failed.

My guess was that something has gone wrong with the Microsoft.net framework as both programs rely on it. As to what, I am still clueless as I did not make any changes.

After a few google searches I ran across this thread at Tom's Hardware which held the solution to my CCC problem:

Particularly, this post:

First make sure you have framework 4 installed.

Then go to the registry editor (start>run>regedit), find the next folder: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/.NETFRAMEWORK, create a string value "OnlyUseLatestCLR" and set the value to 1, only 1.

Restart

Good luck!
