If you're playing the Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion beta and have a Creative X-Fi sound card (running Windows 7 or Vista) and have noticed the lackluster sound, keep reading.
Hardware accelerated audio is just a few clicks away.
First you will need to download Creative ALchemy. In past articles I've linked directly to the download but Creative keeps changing the location, so just Google it.
Below is an example configuration that assumes you bought the game through Steam.
Also ensure that you right click on the Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion exe and configure it to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
One more step and you're on your way to enjoying high fidelity audio.
Edit the rebellion.user.setting file located at (your path)\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting
Change line 34 from:
SoundUseHardware FALSE
to:
SoundUseHardware TRUE
Save the file, launch the game and you're good to go! Your ears can thank me later.
